The life-cycle global warming potential (GWP) of a building measures the total embodied carbon from the manufacturing and/or processing of materials used in its construction, as well as the operational carbon associated with running the building.
The EPBD Directive (EU) 2024/1275 requires that a life-cycle GWP calculation be carried out for all new buildings from January 1, 2030.
Although this requirement does not apply to existing buildings, if a life-cycle GWP calculation is available to the BER Assessor, it can be included in the assessment.
Entering a life-cycle GWP value in the assessment ensures its inclusion on the BER certificate; however, it does not affect the BER calculation results.
To include a life-cycle GWP value in the assessment, the BER Assessor must receive the calculation result from a GWP assessor who was listed on the SEAI register of GWP assessors at the time the calculation was performed.
