This section outlines the methodology for the inclusion of decentralised non-ducted whole-house heat recovery ventilation systems and mechanical extract ventilation systems. This methodology is based on the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Regulations for Residential Ventilation Units. Simple weighting calculations are used to account for multiple units in a single dwelling.
The methodology outlined here is based on use of test data from the ErP label and Ecodesign Product Information which are required to be made publicly available for residential ventilation units (RVUs) being sold on the EU market after 1st January 2016.
The key references for regulations as applied to the directives are as follows. These detail the data that must be displayed on manufacturer literature, website declarations etc. for compliant devices.

3. For systems incorporating all or some units with heat recovery, calculate the average Heat Exchanger Efficiency for the dwelling based on the efficiency for individual units installed in the dwelling, weighted by flow rate and the run time:

The sums must include all units present in the dwelling; When a whole-house decentralised system includes both MVHR and MEV units, the calculation of the heat exchanger efficiency should include both; For MEV, the value of η would be zero as MEV units do not recover heat.
Reminders:
Please ensure that units are used consistently, e.g. all flow rates are in [l/s]. Where appropriate product data is not available, defaults as listed in the DEAP manual for heat recovery efficiency and SFP apply.
